27th Annual International Conference on Economics and Security

We are delighted to announce that the 27th Annual International Conference on Economics and Security (ICES2024) will be hosted by the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, School of Economics, Administration, and Public Policy (SEAPP), and Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CCHS). The conference will take place at our premises in Doha, Qatar.

The purpose of this conference is to foster an international dialogue among economists, political scientists, and other scholars from around the globe. This platform aims to inspire idea-sharing and in-depth discussions about future developments in numerous areas, including:

• Regional security • The economics of security • Corruption and military spending • Globalization and restructuring of the Military-Industrial Complex (MIC) • Militarism and development • Security sector reform • The economics of conflict and war • Conflict-induced migration • Post-conflict reconstruction • The economics of the arms trade • Procurement and offsets • Arms races and alliances • Peace economics and peace science • Conversion and demilitarization • The economics of terrorism • Offers of papers on related topics are also welcome.

  • We believe the diverse range of topics encapsulates the multifaceted approach needed in our global conversation on economics and security.

  • The conference will take place with 'in person' sessions only.

  • Abstracts (up to 300 words) should be submitted to the Organizers by the 14th of April 2024 to be considered for the conference. Details of the conference will be available soon.

Economists for Peace and Security (EPS)

Economists for Peace and Security (EPS) is an organization of economists, other social scientists, and citizens concerned about issues of peace, conflict, war, and the world economy. It has an international network of affiliates in 7 European countries and 8 affiliates from the rest of the world. EPS has been fortunate since its inception to have an honorary Board of Trustees composed of some of the world's most prominent economists and public servants including Nobel Laureates. In coordination with EPS affiliates, this 27th Annual conference will be hosted by DI from June 30th to July 2nd, 2024.

Paul Dunne EPS fellow and Chair of EPS UK, stated that the purpose of this conference is to foster an international dialogue among economists, political scientists, and other scholars from around the globe. This platform aims to inspire idea-sharing and in-depth discussions about future developments in numerous areas.

According to Hamid E. Ali, the Dean of SEAPP, this will be an opportunity to bring leading world scholars to Qatar.  This is a noteworthy achievement for DI, SEAPP and CCHS.

We believe the wide range of topics encapsulates the multifaceted approach needed in our global conversation on economics and security.
